ABOUT ME

unnamed-1.jpg

My love for storytelling came through years of hearing stories from strangers. Following my parents’ international business and humanitarian ventures, I moved from Utah to Costa Rica to California and back. I grew up selling candies in the local tiendas in Mexico, building houses and tutoring centers in Ecuador, and attempting (multiple times) to learn how to surf off the famous Guanacaste coast. Although I have spent the most time in Utah, I claim San Diego as my hometown due to my inability to navigate Utah’s grid system.

In 2020, I moved to New York City and witnessed the center of the pandemic’s devastation. After a 160-day isolation period in Brooklyn, I began translating at the vaccination centers in Washington Heights and serving in the food pantries in the Bronx and Long Island.

This pandemic experience gave me insight into how social media can be used as a medium of communication and connection, and led me to my current role managing ABC4's social media accounts and working as a digital reporter.

I received a bachelor’s degree in Communications — Journalism and a minor in International Strategy and Diplomacy from Brigham Young University. During my time as a student, I was part of a team that won a Student Gracie Award for our work on a short documentary covering the 2023 Maui wildfires. I also won first place for military reporting in the student writing and reporting 2023 SPJ Awards.

My love for storytelling started from hearing stories from strangers, but after knowing someone's story, they are not really strangers anymore.
